What the numbers are based on

The assumptions come from BRCKS customers, not marketing. A project lead running several live jobs typically loses 8–12 hours a week to WhatsApp archaeology: scrolling for a decision, chasing an update that was already sent, rewriting the day's diary from memory, and reconciling costs from three different threads. Trades lose time differently — wasted visits, unclear instructions, work redone because the change never reached them. The calculator applies a conservative hourly cost to each group, then subtracts the cost of BRCKS seats.

The savings people report first

How to sanity-check it against your own business

Take last month. Count the changes you built but never invoiced, add the hours your PMs spent reconstructing what happened, and add one disputed final account. Compare that to three paid seats at £40 per seat per month. The four costs the calculator models

1. Coordination time. The hours a project lead spends finding out what happened rather than deciding what happens next: scrolling threads, ringing round, reconstructing a day. On several live jobs this is usually the largest single number.

2. Wasted site time. Trades attending when the area is not ready, doing work that was superseded by a change nobody passed on, or returning for a second visit because a snag was closed verbally. Every one of those is a half-day nobody invoices for.

3. Unbilled work. Extras agreed in a group chat, built, and then never priced because there is no written record. This is the line most builders underestimate.

4. Admin after hours. Diaries, timesheets and snag lists typed up in the evening from memory — unpaid time that also produces the weakest evidence, because it is written hours after the fact.

Why unbilled variations dominate the result

Time savings are real but gradual. A single missed variation on a modest residential job can be worth more than a year of BRCKS seats on its own, and most contractors carry several a year without knowing it — because the change was agreed verbally on site, confirmed in a chat, and never made it to the invoice.

BRCKS captures the change at the moment it is mentioned: the message, the date, who said it, and the photo alongside it. That turns a memory into a priceable item you can put in front of a client. Assumptions we deliberately kept conservative

The calculator uses a modest hourly cost for office staff and site trades, assumes only part of the identified admin time is actually recovered, and subtracts the full cost of your paid seats before showing a net figure. It does not attempt to price disputes avoided, retention released earlier, or work won because a client got clearer updates — those are real, but they are not defensible in a calculator.

It is a directional model, not a quote. Two contractors of the same size can differ by a factor of two depending on how many subcontractors they coordinate and how disputed their final accounts tend to be.

What it does not include
